JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

 

The American Museum of Natural History, Traveling Exhibition Program is
seeking a qualified individual to act as a contract Conservator/Preparator
for their traveling exhibition Dinosaurs: Ancient Fossils, New Discoveries.
The qualified person must be able and willing to travel domestically to
three venues, for one to two weeks each, from August 2008 - August 2009.
This person will work along side an AMNH Traveling Exhibitions Registrar to
install, de-install, condition report, and repair exhibition specimens as
needed.  

 

Qualifications:

Required-

- 5 years experience working with museum collections

- Knowledge of object conservation and handling

- Experience in the repair of fossils and knowledge of appropriate materials
used in such repairs

- Ability to lift 50lbs  

- Attention to detail and ability to perform under tight deadlines 

- Willingness to work as part of a team

- Quick learner

- BA in Bio Sciences, Earth Sciences, Museum Studies, or related field

 

Desirable -

- Knowledge of vertebrate anatomy

- Experience of working with paleontological collections

- Experience of fossil preparation
