OKLAHOMA COLLECTION OF GENOMIC RESOURCES

SAM NOBLE OKLAHOMA MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY

The Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History would like to
announce the establishment of its newest collection—the Oklahoma
Collection of Genomic Resources (OCGR). The collection is a
repository of biological tissue samples—a "library" of biodiversity—
maintained in accordance with “best practices” in museum stewardship
for current and future research. Partnerships with individuals,
units, and organizations at the University of Oklahoma, other
universities, and state agencies provide a central repository for
deposition of genetic materials and opportunities for research,
training, and education. Founding partners include the University of
Oklahoma Department of Zoology, Oklahoma Biological Survey, and
University of Oklahoma Biological Station

The Oklahoma Collection of Genomic Resources currently is comprised
of more than 14,000 aliquots of tissues for more than 5,200 cataloged
specimens. Taxonomic and geographic breadth include amphibians and
reptiles from the Great Plains, birds from Oklahoma, and mammals from
the Great Plains, Mid-South, and Argentina. A searchable database
(updated quarterly) is located at: http://www.snomnh.ou.edu/
collections-research/ocgr.htm. Information about sampling and
submitting loan requests (Sampling Agreement, Sampling Policy, and
Sampling Request documents) may be found on the OCGR website.

For questions regarding partnerships, deposition of specimens,
requests for information, or requests for loans, contact Dr. Janet K.
Braun, Associate Staff Curator, by email at jkbraun at ou.edu or by mail
at Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History, 2401 Chautauqua
Avenue, University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK 73072 USA.
