Heritage Emergency National Task Force Update
Hurricane Bill is ushering in the peak of the hurricane season, which
historically begins in mid-August and declines toward the end of October.
Throughout the season, the Heritage Emergency National Task Force Web site will
serve as an information clearinghouse on cultural heritage at
_www.heritagepreservation.org/programs/TFcurrent.html_
(http://www.heritagepreservation.org/programs/TFcurrent.html) .
Here’s just a reminder of Task Force protocol when a major emergency
threatens. Heritage Preservation will:
* monitor news and accept damage reports through the online
reporting tool
* update the contacts and resources on the _Information on Major
Disasters_ (http://www.heritagepreservation.org/programs/TFcurrent.html) page
* notify state agency and association contacts about available
resources
* call key contacts in affected areas and brief FEMA and the ESF #11
Coordinator
* as appropriate, convene a conference call of Task Force members
and state officials.
September is _National Preparedness Month_
(http://www.ready.gov/america/npm09/index.html) . The Heritage Emergency National Task Force is a member
of the coalition of organizations that have pledged to provide preparedness
information to our constituents throughout September. We will be posting
tips and tools on Task Force Web pages; please urge your members to take
steps to prepare.
The International Association of Emergency Managers extends an invitation
to all Task Force members to attend the IAEM annual conference October 31 –
November 5, 2009, in Orlando, FL. FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate will be
the keynote speaker, and sessions will foster ideas on collaborating to
protect lives and property. For more information or to register, go to
_http://iaem.com/events/Annual/intro.htm_ (http://iaem.com/events/Annual/intro.htm)
.
Recent flash floods in Louisville, KY, damaged the facilities and
collections of the Main Branch of the Louisville Free Public Library and the
Kentucky Derby Museum. At both locations, staff have taken the steps necessary
to proceed with recovery. The library is posting updates on its home page,
_www.lfpl.org_ (http://www.lfpl.org/) , as is the museum,
_www.derbymuseum.org_ (http://www.derbymuseum.org/) . Both have established mechanisms for
accepting monetary donations.
