At the AAM site, there is a database of those institutions that are
currently accredited, plus a general description of the process and
downloadable documents describing the characteristics of an accreditable
museum.

Plunging directly into accreditation can be daunting for an institution
unfamiliar with the process and requirements. However, AAM and the
Institute for Museum & Library Services (IMLS) collaborate on the Museum
Assessment Program grants, which can provide museums with assistance in
developing the level of operations suited to accreditation. See
