[NHCOLL-L:5357] Meg Lowman's e-mail has been hacked

I imagine that a number of subscribers to this list have exchanged
e-mails at some point with Meg Lowman at the NCMNS. If so, then you
probably just got an e-mail claiming to be from her and asking for
Western Union money to be sent to Spain. This is a known scam run by
European hackers who routinely break into people's gmail accounts
(and other low-security e-mail providers such as yahoo) and pretend
to send e-mails from them. In case it isn't obvious:

DO NOT RESPOND TO ANY SUCH REQUESTS.

The scammers do research into the identities of their victims, to
make the message seem more plausible (e.g., in this case, it reads "I
made a quick trip to Madrid in Spain from South America where i have
been working on forest conservation and research and was mugged under
gun point." but they all end talking about unpaid hotel bills, and
requesting a wire transfer of funds.

Peace,
