The Don Sundquist Center of Excellence in Paleontology and East Tennessee State University & General Shale Brick Natural History Museum seek an experienced professional to join their team as a Grant Specialist for natural history education and research. The selected individual will facilitate an increase in extramural funding into the Center and Museum for existing and planned educational and research activities by identifying, researching, and developing potential funding sources and coordinating the development, writing, and submission of grant proposals. Further, the successful applicant will assist in administering and tracking funded grants to ensure that grant awards are expended efficiently and effectively. This position reports to the Director of the Center of Excellence in Paleontology and the Museum Director. 

Essential Functions:  Works with ETSU staff, faculty, and administrators to organize and plan grant and fund-raising objectives. Works with grant agencies to obtain information about submission of grants, e.g., deadlines, grant requirements and specifications, appropriate formats, progress reports, etc. Compiles, writes, and edits grant proposals in required format. Composes narrative and other descriptive information in the required format. Works with administrators in development of budgets and in tracking expenditures. Works with administrators in developing other fund-raising initiatives. 

Secondary Functions: Supports other fund-raising efforts by providing the Directors with other written materials as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned.   
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of grant writing and other technical writing. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of computers and various software programs including word processing and spreadsheets (e.g., Microsoft Office Word, Access, PhotoShop, PowerPoint, and Excel). Proficiency in basic educational programming and research. Ability to take grant ideas from faculty or administration and translate into format required by grant agencies. Ability to work with inflexible deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and three years of grant writing experience, or master's degree and two years of grant writing experience. Must include a list of grants applied for, grants received, and amounts for each grant.   

Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with natural history museums preferred.
