[NHCOLL-L:5412] Re: health certificates / Sending specimens to China

Hi all,

yes, health certificates are required for all "FRESH" UNPRESERVED
tissues sent to Europe since 4 Mar. 2011, especially for fresh (blood)
samples (including fixed blood on FTA cards for some countries)
especially of birds and cervids (also including unpreserved tissues like
hair / feathers). If not preserved (e.g. in 96% Ethanol), these samples
should be then imported under UN3373 (Biological substance, Category B)
and require veterinary inspection. More information (and other news
regarding sending samples to Europe) will be posted soon.

For the China specimens:
Carol, perhaps it would be worth trying to check if UN3373 import to
China is feasible ? Many countries have agreed to allow exchange and
import of diagnostic materials under UN3373 (which go without health
certificate because their analysis is the purpose for their import), but
I am not sure about China. Maybe worth to check ? At least FedEx would
accept UN3373 in their system if this would be an alternative ...

All the best
Dirk
