Hi again everyone,

Sorry again for the cross-posting, but I just wanted to remind everyone
about the 2013 Mammoth Site Summer Internship. We are still seeking
applicants and will be until JAN 26 2013. These are 7-9 paid positions
($8/hr + housing) lasting for approximately 10-16 weeks. I've added the
announcement and job description below as before. If you intend to apply
as a non-US citizen, please scroll to the bottom and read the note I've
added.

The Mammoth Site of Hot Springs, SD

Position Available:
2013 Summer Internship

Application Closing Date: Friday, January 25, 2013

The Mammoth Site is a natural trap of late Pleistocene fauna. Over
10,000 vertebrate and invertebrate fossils have been uncovered at the
Mammoth Site from its initial field season in 1974 to present. About
3,500 of these bones belong to Columbian and Wooly mammoths, and more
than 2,000 of these bones are preserved in-situ.

The bones of 28 other vertebrate species found at the site, as well as
specimens of 53 other invertebrate and botanical species, are stored in
our well-equipped preparation laboratory and bone repository.
Position: Seasonal internships are available, starting in either May or
June and ending in August or September (to fit your academic schedule).
These are full-time positions (40 hrs/wk) paying $8.00 per hour, with
free housing. You will be working between 400 and 640 hours over the
course of the summer (10-16 weeks; this will include some weekends). The
Mammoth Site is looking to fill seven to nine of these positions.

Responsibilities:
The position will involve conducting interpretive tours and educational
classes for the general public (20 hours per week) and preserving and
preparing Pleistocene fossil material in the lab and in the bonebed (20
hours per week).

In addition, there will be opportunities to learn molding and casting,
and bonebed cartography.

Minimum Qualifications:
You must be at least an undergraduate student in biology, geology,
anthropology, museum studies, or a related field. You should also have
some experience working with natural history collections, knowledge of
anatomy, and familiarity with computers, database programs and digital
cameras. You needn’t be an expert in any of these fields, however.

Good organizational skills and attention to details are a plus, as is
the ability to work independently. Interpersonal skills and the ability
to effectively communicate with the public are both very important.

*You must be able to lift 25-35 lbs.*
This is paramount to your work here at the Mammoth Site; the primary
educational responsibility of a Mammoth Site intern is leading Junior &
Advanced Paleontologist classes. These classes involve repetitive
lifting of buckets full of sediment.

Preferred Qualifications:
• One year or more of vertebrate paleontology preparation, invertebrate
preparation and/or museum curatorial experience in Pleistocene
vertebrate paleontology.
• Experience in education program development and delivery.
• A working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft
Access, and ArcGIS software.
• Experience with public speaking and guide/docent work.
• An ability to start work on or prior to May 26, 2013 helps greatly.

Housing: Housing is available on Mammoth Site property at no cost to the
intern.
The Mammoth Site is located in the town of Hot Springs, SD. Housing is
donated residential housing within town limits. The site is also within
town limits. Hot Springs is a town of approximately 4400 people with
several nearby state and national parks for recreational activities. Two
grocery stores are available within approximately 1.5 miles of the site.
Laundry services available on site.

Application:
Visit the Mammoth Site website (www.mammothsite.org) for your
application or contact Justin Wilkins (see below). You will receive a
Mammoth Site application and 2 academic reference forms. Submit these
materials (the Mammoth Site application and 2 completed academic
reference forms) along with your most recent resume to:

Application Closing Date: Friday, January 25, 2013

A note to our INTERNATIONAL applicants: It is difficult to hire you with
a student or work visa that is valid in the United States. It is
unlikely that unless you already have one of the work visas that you
will be able to get one for the position here; the US Department of
Labor tends to run out by JANUARY 3 of the new year and we won't be
making our decision until after JAN 25 2013. If you have one of these or
a student visa valid through August 2013, we would be able to
accommodate you.

Please let the people you know who might benefit from this know about
it. Thanks for your patience and assistance.

Justin
