[Nhcoll-l] vendor for wide-mouth gallon jars?

We too use the Le Parfait jars but unfortunately they have an even smaller opening and given the price of tanks nowadays, it was nice to have the 120mm gallons to house that class of specimens. The other options mentioned are decidedly more expensive and well out of the range of the budgets of most collections I know for regular specimen containers. They may be doable for a one off "special specimen" though.

For over 25 years, I have used Le Parfait French captive lid canning jars for preservation of fishes. In the US there are several distributors of these jars. The following link lists European distributors:
  http://leparfait.com/list-of-outlets

Used with the white 55 Duro Buna-N rubber gaskets (US
manufacturer) instead of the orange gaskets (provided with jars), these make excellent specimen jars. The orange gaskets will hold up for a year or so but must be replaced more frequently than the Buna-N rubber gaskets. (Any residue left on the jar lid or rim from the old orange gasket must be completely removed before replacing with a new gasket.)

The size range: 0.5 liter to 3.0 liter. Our practice is to put any specimen that is too large for the 3 liter jar into the stainless steel tank system rather than trying to find jars to fit over-sized specimens.
