Hi Sue

You could always ask Simon if he would run the course in the US for you! He travels & does this course where needed. You probably could get enough participants for more than one course to spread the costs. He came up and did the course just for our staff here at Aberdeen University a few years ago and it was an outstanding success. Money well spent. It probably does need to be the 4 days to get the main content across as he covers a lot of the key issues.

I'm curious to know if a similar, though much less intensive course is offered in another (closer!) venue? Or maybe there is a publication someone can recommend? Something for naturalists, classroom biology teachers, environmental educators, etc.

We get a lot of things in jars donated here, and I often don't know what the liquid is or how to even go about finding out. There are other things I'd like to pickle myself, just for display purposes, but I'm not always sure how to go about it. Any advice?

Dear All,

Simon Moore's ever-popular four day fluid preservation course is due to take place yet again at the Horniman Museum, 100 London Rd, Forest Hill, London, SE23 3PQ from the 3rd  to 6th December 2012.
The course will take the usual four day format and the cost is £270 for the four days and will cover all aspects of fluid preservation and conservation of fluid-preserved specimens.
The course comprises PowerPoint presentations each day for about 1 hour and the rest of the day is devoted entirely to practical work.
Members of NatSCA may apply for bursaries to help cover costs if budgets are short.

Full handouts (including risk assessments) are included in the cost and accommodation can be sought in the local area.
