Hello Everyone,

Are you going to SPNHC 2014
<http://www.museumwales.ac.uk/spnhc2014/programme/> in Cardiff, Wales?
iDigBio invites participants to submit talks for Symposium Update on
Initiatives and Progress in Digitisation of Natural History Collections
<http://www.museumwales.ac.uk/media/31182/UpdateDigitisationNHCSPNHC2014Symposium.docx>.

All across the globe, many Natural History Collections (NHC) are
digitising their holdings, seeking funding to digitise, or trying to
figure out how they can get started. Logically, with the development of
these digital resources, researchers, providers and users are interested
in any /specimen data gaps noticed,/ and /specimen data use and re-use
cases/. No matter where you are on this continuum at your institution,
keeping up-to-date on what is going on and what is possible is no easy
task. Come to this session to find out what's happening across the
globe, discover new opportunities to share your expertise and learn from
others digitisation experiences.

Possible topics include: new digitisation software or features, what is
takes to sustain and maintain a digital resource (once it's created),
what's the latest on mass digitisation strategies (think conveyor belts
and crowd-sourcing), imaging strategies (3-D, micro-CT, resolution
questions, whole-drawer) and image annotation, innovative uses for OCR
output using ML, and NLP to see your data in a whole new way, and what's
all this data being used for?

Looking forward to a wide variety of submissions!

Warm regards,
Conveners: Deborah L Paul (dpaul at fsu.edu), Elspeth M Haston
(e.haston at rbge.ac.uk), and Elizabeth Ellwood (eellwood at bio.fsu.edu)
