With advice from another museum curator, students were able to get an archival grade gasket from 3M special-ordered without an adhesive for less than $20. They then used an archival grade adhesive to attach and replace gasket on a Lane cabinet. It looks good and was an inexpensive fix. I’ve been after them for months to get their photos to me and get this written up—will try to prompt them again. Please feel free to contact me off list if you need the information sooner. Whenever they get around to their writeup I was planning to post it here.

Volara is also really good, but I had trouble finding it in anything but large sheets, and adding a self adhesive backing double or tripled the price. The easiest, most cost-effective option, and the one we are going to use, is weather stripping from a hardware store. It comes in several widths and thicknesses and is easily installed. The only problem is that it likely won't be archival quality. If that's something you are concerned about, I would look into Volara. If you contact me off list I can give you a little more info.
