[Nhcoll-l] Cleaning stubs

While I can’t speak for adhesive tabs from SEM stubs, WD40 works great for other adhesives like from duct tape or appliance store price tags. Some are easier to remove than others (e.g., can be wiped with paper towel vs gentled scraped off with putty knife).

I have not tried it, but what about heat? A hair drier or bowl of boiling water might do the trick.

That’s a tried and trusted technique, the only alternative I have attempted is to remove the specimens, then stick a second tab onto the first one, which works fine if you are gold-coating the specimens. However, more often than not our specimens stay on the stub for storage in the collection. I know times are tough but will the budget not stretch to a few additional stubs..?

Subject: [Nhcoll-l] Cleaning stubs

Folks,

Does anyone have a quick trick for removing adhesive tabs from SEM stubs so they can be used again? I’m using Pella carbon adhesive tabs; my current technique is to soften them with acetone and scrape them off, but there has to be an easier way - ?
