[Nhcoll-l] Digitally Enhanced Woods Hole Key and Gray Museum collection

The Peabody Museum has recently completed a four year project to curate and integrate the invertebrate holdings of the former Gray Museum collection that was transferred to Yale from the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts in 1994.  The collections were developed primarly under the auspices of the Systematic Ecology Program (Melboure Carriker, director) during the 1960's (http://peabody.yale.edu/collections/invertebrate-zoology/george-m-gray-museum-collection).  This project was funded by the National Science Foundation's CSBR (Collections in Support of Biological Research) program, Award Number 1203483.

Data relating to over 22000 lots of marine invertebrates from the New England region are now available online (http://collections.peabody.yale.edu/search/), and are a major data complement to the museum's holdings of invertebrates from the same region collected in the 19th century by the U.S. Fish Commission.

A signficant resource developed during the SEP period was the reference manual, "Keys to the Invertebrates of the Woods Hole Region" edited by Ralph I. Smith and published by the MBL.  We are pleased to announce that a digitally enhanced of the original guidebook is now available for download. Included are nearly 700 image links to specimens and archive images from the Peabody collections, biographies of chapter authors, key publicly accessible references, and where relevant, updated taxonomy (based primarily on the WoRMS website).

Please note that the resource is to be downloaded and saved to the desktop.  It is not a web-based resource.  The pdf was designed for Chrome as the image access browser; Firefox and IE can produce unpredictable results and the images may not be ordered properly.
