Federal funding is now available to state and local governments and certain private non-profit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities damaged by the severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds and flooding from April 28 to May 11, 2017.

Local and state government cultural institutions (public libraries, public school libraries, county courthouses, etc.) and private nonprofit (PNP) cultural institutions (museums, historic houses/sites, historical societies, private research libraries and archives, etc.) may be eligible for federal assistance under the Public Assistance Program. I’ve sent the following information to Missouri cultural agencies, library/museum/archives associations, the State Emergency Management Agency, FEMA and DOI Regional Environmental Officers, and the IAEM (International Association of Emergency Managers) regional president for distribution to their colleagues and constituents. Please share this information with your constituents in Missouri, and ask them to pass it on:

·        To date, the Heritage Emergency National Task Force (HENTF) has received no reports of damage to PNP cultural institutions. However, that does not mean that none suffered damage. Let me know what you’ve heard. I can reach out to affected institutions to encourage them to apply for Public Assistance (PA), but I need your help identifying them.

·        Affected public libraries, municipal offices, and state offices/depts./agencies should already be connected to Public Assistance through their respective government, but it’s important to double check that that has happened.

·        The application deadline to request Public Assistance is 30 days from the date of declaration, June 2. Therefore, cultural institutions should not delay in contacting their State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Regional Coordinator. ·        MO SEMA will be preparing and coordinating a series of Applicant Briefings for eligible applicants in the declared counties. The briefings will provide an overview of the Public Assistance Program and an opportunity for eligible applicants to submit their Request for Public Assistance (RPA) to SEMA for processing to FEMA. It is highly recommended that cultural institutions interested in requesting Public Assistance attend an Applicant Briefing.
