[Nhcoll-l] labeling silicone

Hi Thomas,

There is also a "tatooing" technique for labeling silicone rubber molds
that involves stippling the surface with a sharp point and rubbing India
Ink into the surface. See page 5 of the following PDF.

Paleontological Specimens", p 5.

I've also gotten in the habit of labeling the mother mold with the
"standard method" described in the above paper. Including a freshly printed
specimen label enclosed in polyester mylar or a zip bag (made of either
polyethylene or polypropylene) with the mold in storage also helps to
easily track and identify the mold. We place the encapsulated label and the
mold with spare casts into a larger zip bag and store them in cabinets
where they are not exposed to direct light.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,

VRR
