[Nhcoll-l] Survey: Creating an Australasian Natural History Collections Network

Attention New Zealand, Australia and Pacific Islands

Kia ora koutou,

During the 2018 Society for the Preservation of Natural History Collections (SPNHC) and Biodiversity Information Standards (TDWG) Conference in Dunedin, Aotearoa New Zealand, a meeting for delegates from Australasia was held to gauge interest in and explore options for forming a regional group or network that focuses on supporting the practical aspects of natural science collections, curation, management, digitisation and conservation.

There was unanimous support for forming a group/network, however we acknowledge that many people working in the sector were unable to attend or did not have the opportunity to give feedback to all items raised in the meeting.

A questionnaire has been designed to collect additional input on what should be the purpose, scope and structure of the group/network.  The results from this survey will guide the next steps in development.
