<div dir="ltr">Sarah, et al.<div><br></div><div style>Your questions are good ones and we, at VertNet, are currently working with at least one collection to see what, if any, results are a consequence of joining a network such as FishNet. In fact, your question has prompted us to look to expand our group of institutions in our so-far-informal study.<br>
</div><div style><br></div><div style>Certainly, we have lots of anecdotal information from collections that their use and exposure has increased, just as Andy and Nelson have suggested. Some of those collections have documentation to prove it, others do not, so we have undertaken to make certain that a sampling of collections ready to join VertNet are keeping good records on metrics such as loan requests, visits to the collections, and phone inquiries prior to inclusion in the data network, as well as tracking the same things after inclusion.</div>

<p>I too have also noticed an increase in our loans since our collections went online over a decade ago. Our loan numbers fluctuate quite a bit from year to year and we have been online for so long, that its hard to quantify the effect. Like Andy, we too have
seen more interest from internationals. Maybe a 20% increase overall, though the biggest impact has been the reduction of general information<a></a> requests that we would otherwise have to handle. Most people now get our data through FishNet<a></a> et al. and
we rarely have to compile and send out spreadsheets to people anymore. </p>

<p>We are hoping to upload our collection database to FishNet2 in the coming months, and I was wondering if anyone has any data about the effect of inclusion in these types of global databases on loan requests. After adding a collection database to a global
databse (e.g., FishNet2, HerpNET, ORNIS, etc.), did loan requests noticeably increase? If so, does anyone have any data indicating the percent increase?</p>
