Tervuren/MRAC is using a similar system but not exactly the same
at there we had peeling ribbon that came off. But good point to
test it. Could you send 2-3 of your labels ? I will immerse them
in MEK - let's see what happens. Happy to place a jar at the
window for direct exposure.<br>

What do you think ? Would it be worth trying ?<br>

Has anyone using MEKI denatured alcohol tried using this
labelling system and found it to fail? I would be

have been using this system for over 10 years now plus I
have had an informal test going on my windowsill in full
sunlight in 95% ethanol, and conc formalin for over 7 years
now without any visible adverse effects. There are also the
accelerated aging tests done on the material that I
published in my newsletter article.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

- again, know your settings: this method works well for
fluid collections which e.g. use undenatured alcohol or were
the denaturing agent is not reactive against plastics. I
would definitely refrain to use this labelling method in our
fish collection as we have to use MEK denatured alcohol. MEK
is a highly aggressive and reactive ketone, which is very
well known to cracks down polymer-chains.

European collections should be very careful here, especially
in the light of the new EU-directive EU No. 162/2013 which
prescribes even higher amounts of MEK for denaturing and
prescribes usage of MEK in those countries which used
different denaturing agents prior to 2013 (e.g. IMS /
camphor).<br>

<pre>Wet collections have been using this system for some time now for alcohol labels with very good results. We are printing on to a spun bound polyester using a thermal transfer printer and wax/resin ribbon. This is obviously not a sticky backed label kind of media but I am sure a similar kind of thing could be sourced. Attached is some information on the system and printer that we use as well as a price list from Alpha Systems, the company through we which we buy our supplies.<o:p></o:p></pre>
