Summer Internship Program 2015

The Mammoth Site of Hot Springs, SD, Inc. is now taking applications
for its 2015 summer internship program.

The Mammoth Site is a natural trap of late Pleistocene fauna. Over
10,000 vertebrate and invertebrate fossils have been uncovered at
the Mammoth Site from its initial field season in 1974 to present.
About 3,500 of these bones belong to Columbian and Wooly mammoths,
and more than 2,000 of these bones are preserved in-situ.

The bones of 29 other vertebrate species found at the site, as well
as specimens of 53 other invertebrate and botanical species, are
stored in our well-equipped preparation laboratory and bone
repository.

Position: Seasonal internships are available, starting in May and
ending in August or September (to fit your academic schedule and our
high traffic season). These are full-time positions (40 hrs/wk)
paying $8.50 per hour, with free housing. You will be
working between 400 and 640 hours over the course of the summer
(10-16 weeks; this will include some weekends). The Mammoth Site is
looking to fill seven to nine of these positions.

Responsibilities: The position will involve conducting interpretive
tours and educational classes for the general public (a combined 20
hours per week), museum conservation techniques in Pleistocene
fossil material in both lab and in-situ settings (12 hours combined
between lab and in-situ), and field techniques and bonebed
cartography in the bonebed (8 bonebed hours per week).
