</span>Then a series of NSF-funded workshops called “Future
Directions in Biodiversity and Systematics Research” was held
during 2009–2010 to evaluate progress in the field and identify
new directions and opportunities. Workshop participants reviewed
SA2K as a way to rapidly achieve common ground and to jump-start
our discussions. We did not plan to undertake a formal revision of
SA2K, but our discussions led to consensus on a number of relevant
points. We share these here with the intention of generating
further reflection and discussion toward advancing our field and

I haven't reviewed the latter document at all and barely remember
the first, but I'd be surprised if they thought to include "work
to reduce or eliminate unnecessary barriers to research." Because
regardless of your goals and strategies to achieve your goals, you
can't do anything if you can't obtain and move the research
materials. <br>

plan, and, as much as possible, I would like to work in goals of
the natural
history collections community. Does anyone know if there is a
strategic
vision for natural history collections/museums? The
Organization
for Biological Field Stations handed out a strategic vision at
their 2013
meeting, and I was hoping something like this existed for
collections.
Beyond the push to database, digitize, and make collection data
available
online, I'm not sure about the goals of the community. Any
advice
or input would be greatly appreciated.</font>
