Hi all,

two thoughts on this:

like Andy, I would also rather use internal labels for alcohol
collections instead of external ones; adding to Gretchen's
cautioning, consider that the adhesives do age and that the
stability of the adhesives might also be influenced (in case of
plastic containers) from the plastics itself. At some point they
will fail, which might entail a lot of work keep the data with
specimen lots.

"Labelling", as well as "printing", is always the combination of
printing medium and imprinting method. Even though you buy the
same brand, the composition might change (especially that of
labels, even if they are of archival quality). So if you want to
introduce new handy labels, it might be worth to test if the new
labels work with your imprinting method.

Cheap & reliable alternative for internal labels:
Old HP 500&600 DeskJet printers and original HP cartridge hp
45 black in combination with high quality transparent paper as
internal labels. Works not only in alcohol, but also in water
based solutions (e.g. during formalin fixation and are fairly
stable during alcohol ladder specimen transfer)

All the best
