Until now, you could not submit APHIS e-permit renewal applications
until 30 days prior to the permit expiration date.

We (the Ornithological Council) had asked some years ago that you be
allowed to submit e-permit renewals 90 days in advance of the permit
expiration date, but that never came to pass. It wasn't ordinarily a
problem in the sense that APHIS almost always gets the permits
renewed within 30 days of submission but it was a problem in the
sense that the permit holder might be away during that period and
not be able to submit the renewal request.

We raised the issue again (thanks, A.J.!) and voila!

<span
style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:#1F497D">The
system will now allow people to submit 90 days in advance, but the
application goes into “ holding” status until 6 weeks before
expiration. The system won’t let it go through the normal
application processing until 6 weeks prior to expiration.

We have also renewed the request that they re-program the
system to allow multiple users (who of course have to be
e-authenticated) to access a particular permit, with the permission
of the permit holder. In the past, we were told that they simply had
no more funding for programming. This request was made by a number
of user groups and it simply wasn't feasible to do the programming
changes. However, they are working on a new system so I've renewed
the request. Hold thumbs!
