if used for storage of initially formalin fixed specimens
preserved in alcohol. <br>

Even Bakelite lids with PE-inlays are not stable in the long run,
better are PE-lids with PE inlays.<br>

Andy; we have used flint glass jars here since the 1950s and
they seem not to suffer deterioration in the 40- to 50- year
time frame that we treat as the “major overhaul” cycle for
our alcohol collection. Closures are another matter, though;
we are replacing almost all of those that were put on in the
1970s, mostly as a precautionary measure against failure in
known age-limited materials such as Bakelite and steel.

opinion I think borosilicate glass is overrated and not
worth the expense. We have been using regular good grade
glass jars that we purchase from Kols Containers (<a moz-do-not-send="true" href="https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.oberk.com_about_kols-2Dcontainers-2Dbaltimore-2Dmd&d=AwMFAw&c=-dg2m7zWuuDZ0MUcV7Sdqw&r=CLFZJ3fvGSmDp7xK1dNZfh6uGV_h-8NVlo3fXNoRNzI&m=4GJpiB_8sHQIZcbLRZh0rFibkm3apLKqAAd46F5mbYM&s=wsJal3EZ1XzYMj9Gr1U_ZrA4pTZ1ZkQN80tu4xxtK1w&e="><a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://www.oberk.com/about/kols-containers-baltimore-md">http://www.oberk.com/about/kols-containers-baltimore-md</a></a>)
and we have never had any issues with the jars – no
failures, no handling issues etc. The jars have very good
closures that are alcohol resistant and do a great job at
preventing evaporation. I will say that all of our
specimens are originally fixed in formalin and so I have no
empirical evidence about effect on DNA quality. The
greatest quality about these jars are that they are
relatively inexpensive (see attached price list) and come in
a LARGE variety of sizes up to a gallon jar. Anything above
that size goes into tanks.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

sold are either flint or soda-lime glass. So I am hoping
