</font><br>

<div>
<div class="WordSection1">
<p class="MsoNormal">Hi all</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Further to our conversation on SDR ribbon for thermal transfer printers. I just received my sample roll of SDR 5+ ribbon from Alpha Systems to test its effectiveness for use in wet collections.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">First impressions are encouraging. I have printed about 20 labels now and am getting the same quality of print as the old SDR ribbon. The ribbon looks slightly different in that it is a matt ribbon rather than the shiny surface of the
old version. However, the printer seems to have no issues printing on it and the labels seems to be of the same quality of print. I took a couple of labels and immersed them in 70% ethanol and then tried to vigorously rub the print off the label without
any luck. These jars will join the others I have had on my window ledge in full sunlight for about 10 years now (without any visible signs of deterioration – they look like they were put in there yesterday). I will also be finding our oiliest specimen to
try while also placing some labels in formalin and glycerin for a similar test.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">This new SDR 5+ ribbon is more resistant to chemicals as outlined in the attached spec sheet and is slightly more expensive ($54 per roll as opposed to $42).</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I will keep you informed of any changes I see.</p>
