<p class="MsoNormal">Most of the Oregon State Ichthyology Collection is in 50% isopropanol (including the smaller jars).&nbsp; I haven’t seen any issues with the labels in the specimens that are in those less lipid-rich conditions. &nbsp;We’ve been the Alpha Systems
 labels for about six years. <o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:black">Further to our conversation on SDR ribbon for thermal transfer printers.&nbsp; I just received my sample roll of SDR 5&#43; ribbon from Alpha Systems to test its effectiveness for use in wet collections.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:black">&nbsp;<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:black">First impressions are encouraging.&nbsp; I have printed about 20 labels now and am getting the same quality of print as the old SDR ribbon.&nbsp; The ribbon looks slightly different in that it is a matt ribbon rather than
 the shiny surface of the old version.&nbsp; However, the printer seems to have no issues printing on it and the labels seems to be of the same quality of print.&nbsp; I took a couple of labels and immersed them in 70% ethanol and then tried to vigorously rub the print
 off the label without any luck.&nbsp; These jars will join the others I have had on my window ledge in full sunlight for about 10 years now (without any visible signs of deterioration – they look like they were put in there yesterday).&nbsp; I will also be finding our
 oiliest specimen to try while also placing some labels in formalin and glycerin for a similar test.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:black">This new SDR 5&#43; ribbon is more resistant to chemicals as outlined in the attached spec sheet and is slightly more expensive ($54 per roll as opposed to $42).<o:p></o:p></span></p>
