consequently their museum
collections, on complying with archaeology and
paleontology laws and the
acquisition of only those objects and specimens that
furthers their mission.”</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span
style="font-size:12pt;line-height:107%;font-family:Arial,sans-serif"><span
style="background-image:initial;background-repeat:initial">In
other words, the mere fact that something was collected on
federally managed public lands does not mean it is a DOI
museum object. Only if it falls within the "Scope of
Collections" statement would it be a DOI museum object. <br>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span
style="font-size:12pt;line-height:107%;font-family:Arial,sans-serif">These
are the estimates of the number of DOI museum objects. Of
the number of biological specimens, the estimate is that 2/3
are held in federal repositories. So that means that maybe
1.1 million would be subject to the information collection
request, and again, they anticipate sampling approximately
2.5% so something like 27,500 total across all collections.
