Note that there is quite a bit of verbiage about which standards
apply, based on the source of the funding. That is about to change
as a result of a memorandum of agreement between NIH and NSF. <br>

Animal Welfare Act regulations and *not* the PHS Pollcy. It depends
on how the university's assurance document (a "contract" with NIH)

complicated in a hurry and I don't want to bore others with it. The
thing is that in her case, it really matters because the Animal
Welfare Act covers only warm-blooded animals whereas the PHS Policy
covers all invertebrates. <br>

Furthermore, as far as APHIS is concerned, if the animals are
euthanized in a humane manner then they have not been harmed and so
this would likely be considered a field study and a full protocol
