<p class="MsoNormal">The gold standard for wet collections is the thermal transfer printer and spun bound polyester media system that a number of museums have been using for some time now. We have been using it in our ichthyology and herpetology collections
for over 15 years and have been extremely happy with them – no fading, yellowing, cracking or any deterioration in a number of different environments – ethanol, isopropanol, formalin, glycerin – pure and with specimen associated oils and contaminants.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I have had an informal test ongoing on my window ledge for about 11 years now with labels in all solutions in direct sunlight and the labels still look as new.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Attached is information about the printer, the pricing from Alpha Systems and an article I wrote for the SPNHC newsletter some time back.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">As Dirk mentioned there was some worry a while back about labels not standing up to certain fluids but this was traced back to a batch of incorrect ribbon that was shipped to various users.<o:p></o:p></p>

(vial sized) labels, that abrasion is wearing/scratching off some of the ink (mainly from forcept or vial mouth). The label ink doesn’t bleed once immersed but I am still concerned with the long term viability of these labels.</span><o:p></o:p></p>
