I would be happy if the SPNHC Legs & regs group could be in
the loop regarding FedEx.<br>

You describe a very common problem because FedEx does per-import
clearance based on information that is entered in their electronic
declaration system based on entered data of commercial invoices.
But these are simply unsuited for proper import declarations of
biologiccal materials because it is not possible to enter basic
information.<br>
<br>
If there would be any discussion with FedEx (and UPS, if possible,
because it is a common problem), it would be helpful if we could
address this as global issue (and offer solutions how to handle
our type of biomaterials - see this mornings email regarding new
CN-codes for natural history materials).<br>
<br>
If you summarize the number of specimens exchanges between museums
yearly, you end up well above 1,000,000 specimens, which is
another relevant figure for FedEx (compared to annual revenue),
because they want to have smart parcels & easy customs
clearance.<br>

annually and at least 100 U.S. import shipments per month. I
seriously doubt that any of you meet those thresholds. <br>
</p>
<p>So that means that you will be relying on the FedEx Express
Customs Operation (ECO) and that's what seems to be a bit
glitchy. So we'll keep plugging away at it and hope that it can
get sorted out.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, I continue to advise that you mark the air way bill
with the correct Harmonized Tariff Code and that you write on
the air way bill and on five sides of the box:</p>
<p>WILDLIFE::USFWS AND AQI DECLARATION REQUIRED. <br>
</p>
<p>If your shipment requires permits, then <br>
</p>
<p>WILDLIFE::[PERMIT TYPE]::USFWS AND AQI DECLARATION REQUIRED.<br>
</p>
I also advise that you include extra copies of the documents
inside the box and write on the outside of the box "extra copies
of documents inside box." Just in case the originals - which
should be in the plastic document pouch - are misplaced.<br>
