We went digital about one year ago and first we thought off using our old analogues X-ray machine together with a digital panel /scanner. However, in our case the old machine had too large focus
(0.5 mm) and for digital X-ray small focus (micro/mini focus) is preferred to enable geometrical magnification to achieve same or even higher resolution compared to film. After looking around we ended up with a solution, offered by Kodex USA, that we mounted
in our existing cabinet. This type of set ups are in use in several American museums. We also looked at scanners but to me they seems too complicated (moving parts) and more important, too long exposure times. Scanner can give slightly higher resolution compared
to panels but micro focus + geometric magnification is the preferred way to go according to my opinion. The X-ray source is a small investment compared to a panel/scanner.

X-ray beam from the Faxitron.

if so, what did you buy?
