<p>More detail on the request from the USFWS regarding designated
ports and designated port exemptions. I have already submitted the
list of ports compiled from your earlier responses. Now they are
looking for input as to <br>
</p>
<p>1) criteria for designating ports</p>
<p>2) recommendations as to how the Designated Port Exception permit
program can be modified to address the use of unstaffed ports. <br>
</p>
<p>None of this indicates that any changes or any particular changes
will be made. In fact, given the likely budget cuts (not that the
proposed budget is going to happen...but there will almost
certainly be cuts of some magnitude), it is hard to imagine that
they will be able to designated new ports in the near future. But
you never know...</p>
<p>I know this is calling for technical information and probably
requires a level of expertise that only those of you who handle a
large volume of imports have. Nonetheless, I wanted to be sure you
had the opportunity for input.</p>
<p>Please let me have your responses by May 31.<br>
