<div>Hi all -</div><div><br></div><div>We also use these strategies of heat sealing polyethylene tubing or sheeting around study skins as a protective measure to minimize risk of exposure to heavy metals in the skins from preparing or residual pesticides. (And a preventive measure in the event of a water emergency).</div><div><br></div><div>I'd be interested in folks opinions of this strategy - does it create too much of a limitation to researchers? We feel like we can cut these open and replace when needed, and can design the containers to have space for resealing, I am interested in hearing others experience.</div><div><br></div><div>What are other people doing to minimize risk of exposure to the heavy metals? Could this be of help to you with oddly sized and/shaped specimens? Mostly, I've done this to creat dust covers for larger specimens and temporary sealing prior to freezing (pest eradication). If doing this, I would consider adding dry-packs to the bag. There is a brief discussion of this procedure in Hendry (1999, p. 15, linked).
