<p>Some museums have received a letter from the Dept. of the
Interior Freedom of Information officer to inform them of the fact
that DOI has received a FOIA request from a news organization.
This particular letter involves import info, much of which they
collect via the 3-177 or e-dec.<br>

Turn the letter over to your university counsel. They will know what
to do.<br>

But just so you know what is going on - DOI is informing you that
the request has been made and that they have some or all of the
requested information but that you, as the submitter of the
information, have the right to ask DOI not to disclose it to the
requester based on one or more of the statutory exemptions. In the
letter I've seen, it is exemption four (trade secrets and commercial
or financial information obtained from a person that is confidential
or privileged." They mean the information is confidential or
privileged, not the person who submitted it, but ....<br>

They are not asking you to provide the info. You've already
submitted it as required by law. <br>
<br>
If you've already made the info listed in the letter publicly
available via Arctos or some other publicly accessible database,
well...<br>
