was originally contaminated by skeletal collections that had been stored somewhere that was infested with red-legs, and were carried into the colony along with the bones and what ever other material was transferred.

<p class="MsoNormal">I have been dealing with this exact problem in our colony. I have been sorting and creating a new dermestid colony. One thing I will strongly suggest is to do a secondary sort before placing the dermestids into a new tank. You will almost
be guaranteed to pick up some ham beetles along with the dermestids during the initial sort. So I have been placing beetles taken from the original colony in a cup and then sorting them out again in a separate container before placing the dermestids in a new
tank for the time being. <o:p></o:p></p>

invasion is early and if possible – monitor the colony closely and hand pick all individuals out – shouldn’t take long. The worst thing is these guys getting into your collection area. I am not sure how you treat your skeletons once coming out of the bugs
– but if you do a classic water soak – these little guys seem to survive and hide well in any possible air pocket. They love greasy specimens and can really be quite destructive to your specimens. </span><o:p></o:p></p>
