<div dir="ltr">Having worked with both situations, I much prefer fully incorporating new collections. I find it easier to plan storage and keep things organized by species. However, people have made plenty of somewhat decent arguments for organizing things in many different ways. The most important thing though is having a database that makes it easy to find and put away specimens, no matter what organizational system you use. <span style="color:rgb(34,34,34);font-family:arial,sans-serif;font-size:small;font-style:normal;font-variant-ligatures:normal;font-variant-caps:normal;font-weight:400;letter-spacing:normal;text-align:start;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;white-space:normal;word-spacing:0px;background-color:rgb(255,255,255);text-decoration-style:initial;text-decoration-color:initial;float:none;display:inline">I ask myself, can a student put something away for me without a lot of training, or is it so complicated that I have to do it myself? ....I prefer to delegate if possible. ---Liath</span><div class="gmail_extra"><br clear="all"><div><div class="gmail_signature" data-smartmail="gmail_signature"><div dir="ltr"><div><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div style="font-size:small"><font size="2">Liath Appleton<br></font></div><div style="font-size:small"><font size="2">Associate Collections Manager</font></div><div style="font-size:small"><font size="2">Non-Vertebrate Paleontology Lab</font></div><div style="font-size:small"><font size="2">University of Texas - Jackson School of Geosciences</font></div><div style="font-size:small"><div>Bldg PRC122 - campus mail code R8500<br>10100 Burnet Road</div><div>Austin, TX 78758</div></div><div style="font-size:small"><br></div><div style="font-size:small"><font size="2">SPNHC Connection Editor (<span style="color:rgb(85,85,85);white-space:nowrap"><a href="mailto:newsletter@spnhc.org" style="color:rgb(17,85,204)" target="_blank">newsletter@spnhc.org</a>)</span></font></div><div style="font-size:small"><font size="2">SPNHC Web Manager (<a href="mailto:webmaster@spnhc.org" style="color:rgb(17,85,204)" target="_blank">webmaster@spnhc.org</a>)</font></div><div style="font-size:small"><a href="https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.spnhc.org_&d=DwMFaQ&c=cjytLXgP8ixuoHflwc-poQ&r=LpYc_Z_iN1KRw0hheb3x6-8MJUMu482qfHowpGYJqwc&m=ESP8LI8VRytEp42didYNkTzYTSz9WB6g8h3f-iJ-Um8&s=KoYzH7L98M2jdjH_v8U1vgCA-DgF5-stRnCRWoHDym4&e=" style="color:rgb(17,85,204)" target="_blank"><font size="2">www.spnhc.org</font></a></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div>

<div class="m_-2811416803269001239PlainText"><span class="">This is a question relative to the collections management. Mainly it's directed to those that drive entomological or invertebrate collections that presumably is more usual to accept new donations.<br>
When you want to integrate a new collection... which is your protocol? Do you junct the new collection with older (I mean to put together all the specimens of same species) or maintain the independence of the new collection (and only pool the data of new records
in a unique Data Base)?<br>
