<p class="p2"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">The Nagoya Protocol is an international treaty that sets up the legal framework for utilizing genetic resources without exploiting the countries they originate from. A genetic resource is a physical object of biological
origin and the intellectual information associated with it such as traditional knowledge. These resources have actual or potential value and contain functional units of heredity that can be explored through research and exploited in development. Each country
who is party to the Nagoya Protocol has its own regulations in place. While the United States is not a party to the Nagoya Protocol, American researchers still must adhere to Nagoya regulations in the country they’re doing research in.<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></p>
