<p class="MsoNormal">No, I would not say that is the case. It very much depends on how these have been treated over the years as to whether viable DNA can be extracted from them. DNA has been extracted from worse. If they have been frozen at -20 consistently
since collecting then there is every possibility that viable DNA may still be present. If they have all been treated the same way it may be useful to test a couple of them to see if you can get DNA out of them and then progress from there.<o:p></o:p></p>

carcasses stored in -20C freezers awaiting more traditional specimen preps, rather than collecting new specimens. Most of these specimens are relatively common species that were salvaged or were put into coolers during field surveys and then frozen. I thought
it would be good to also preserve tissues for genomic studies as we prepare these specimens, but after reading the papers you shared, it seems like these specimens have little to no chance of yielding useful genetic material given their storage history so
we shouldn't bother preserving tissue samples from them. Is that correct?<o:p></o:p></span></p>
