<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Today marks the official start of the 2022 Atlantic hurricane season</b>, which will run through November 30. We’ve already seen hurricane activity in the eastern Pacific: Hurricane Agatha
<span style="color:#1D2228;background:white">made history as the strongest hurricane ever recorded to come ashore in May.</span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#1D2228;background:white"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="color:#1D2228;background:white">The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts an above-normal 2022 Atlantic hurricane season</span></b><span style="color:#1D2228;background:white">,
</span><span style="color:#333333;background:white">which would make it the seventh consecutive above-average hurricane season. </span>NOAA predicts a 65% chance of an above-normal season, a 25% chance of a near-normal season, and a 10% chance of a below-normal
season. The increased activity anticipated this hurricane season is attributed to several climate factors, including the ongoing La Niņa and warmer-than-average sea surface temperatures in the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea.

<p class="MsoNormal">I ask that you be prepared to help disseminate HENTF preparedness information when a hurricane threat arises, and that you reach out to your members and constituents after a hurricane – or after any other event – to ascertain the safety
of staff and the status of facilities and collections. <span style="color:#333333;background:white">
NOAA predicts 3 to 6 major hurricanes (category 3, 4 or 5; with winds of 111 mph or higher). But it only takes one to change a community forever.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
