Dear Sound Studies Members,

I apologise for the delay in sending this e-mail around--I hope everyone is
holding up following the recent election. I am writing as next week on
*Tuesday* *November 15 at 5:30 in WHC B04* we will be reading excerpts from
Ashon Crawley's recently released book *Blackpentecostal Breath: The
Aesthetics of Possibility. *This is fundamentally a hopeful book--one that
I am excited to have a conversation with other people about.

Further it is a challenging and exciting book which crosses all kinds of
disciplinary boundaries as it fundamentally argues against philosophical
currents which enforce *categorical distinctions*. Nicholas Forster, PhD
candidate in African American Studies and Film and Media Studies, will
provide some introduction to the discussion.

The reading selections are available on classes V2 and the entire book is
accessible through ORBIS <https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__hdl.handle.net_10079_bibid_12902490&d=CwIFaQ&c=-dg2m7zWuuDZ0MUcV7Sdqw&r=InYMYnUc-1mpSgY3qDIzBrVOgBTbtaL4WhYzqX_0YVA&m=63MDMfBXVNtrn6ToQs7W04FWUoHGxb7Ygt_lbhK0qTw&s=KQzxV10AiGdZw5CvMuvLFvgcDPDRwa9n1GQUcfrBSuA&e= >. The
book seems to resist having excerpts drawn so if you are interested in more
of the argument check out the full book! For our discussion we will read
