From richard.deming at yale.edu Mon Aug 24 11:03:29 2015 From: richard.deming at yale.edu (Richard Deming) Date: Mon, 24 Aug 2015 11:03:29 -0400 Subject: [Wgcp-whc] WGCP dates for this semester Message-ID: <960C6D05-7B61-437D-9ABE-EFA290B7A5F8@yale.edu> Dear Friends of Poetry and Poetics, As you likely noticed, the Working Group in Contemporary Poetry and Poetics (the WGCP) took a break this past spring. We are, however, springing back to life this coming semester and I thought I?d send the dates early so that people can plan accordingly. This coming term we will have three visitors: Dan Beachy-Quick, Carl Phillips, and Cole Swensen. Cole is a return visitor, and many will remember her very generative visit from a few years ago. As is generally the case, the WGCP meets as a group for session at which we discuss the latest work by an upcoming visitor. To that end, we purchase 15 or so copies for members of the group. These copies will be left at the Whitney Humanities Center. At the preliminary session we look at the work and have a conversation about the poems and about the poetics that seem to be suggested by the work. We develop a series of questions at are sent to the visitors in advance of their arrivals. This helps make sure that when they come to campus, they are part of an actual conversation rather than some formal q and a. One of the hallmarks of this group, now in its 12th year is that sense of collegiality. All sessions run from 3 PM ? 5 PM. All the dates are Fridays. The sessions occur in the Whitney Humanities Center. I also remind you that the WGCP is open to everyone. We tend not to advertise, but please do spread the word of the group and these dates to people who might be interested. As the new academic year is starting, there are new people on campus and around town who might be interested in joining us. We do have a blog and will post these dates in due time. https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__wgcp.wordpress.com_&d=AwIFaQ&c=-dg2m7zWuuDZ0MUcV7Sdqw&r=Wv-FChPIYozrmvMKRuHmxQEBEWCLmKc9M2L_LdpEOUI&m=rb0IcvzwiKJiGtE1NQBUh5q19eboAWuxlSZJ3yiaGT4&s=FcbxGIR6ovPawINSeurV8wCL3aoG83J-Rx7HMiTm33M&e= The dates for this fall are as follows. 10/2?WGCP session.
