In his Founding Manifesto of Futurism, Marinetti famously wrote: “We wish to
destroy museums, libraries, academies of any sort …” Yet in spite of this
(self-)destructive wish, the Beinecke still preserves his archive alongside the
literary remains of many other Futurists and Modernists. As a result, scholars
continue to find important unpublished pieces. Next Wednesday, one of these
scholars, Patrizio Ceccagnoli of Columbia University, will discuss some of the
works he has unearthed during his research at the Beinecke this spring. Among
the topics of Mr. Ceccagnoli’s talk will be Marinetti’s role in the
controversial occupation of Fiume by the poet Gabriele D’Annunzio (1919-1920)
and an unpublished novel on Venice written late in Marinetti’s career.<br>

Patrizio Ceccagnoli holds a Laureate in Classics from the Università degli
Studi di Perugia. Currently working toward a PhD in Italian literature at
Columbia, Mr. Ceccagnoli has been at the Beinecke since the middle of February.
In addition to working on his dissertation on the late Marinetti, he has been
preparing an edition of Marinetti’s unpublished Venetian novel, which, with the
support of Professor Paolo Valesio, is to be released next year in
commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Founding Manifesto.<br>
