[Yale-readings] Poetry and the Beinecke Library's 50th anniversary

The Beinecke 's 50th anniversary events that will be taking place this coming weekend. Of special note are the three poetry-related events: the performance of La Prose; the sound installation which will feature Beinecke poets' readings intertwined with sounds and archival audio; and the gala concert which will include a suite of art songs based on poetry in the Beinecke's collections.

La Prose du Transsibérien
A musical setting of Blaise Cendrars' epic poem by Matthew Suttor.
English translation by Timothy Young

The beautiful book by Cendrars and Delaunay should be familiar to many of us by now. It has been displayed, taught, and made into a facsimile edition. This will be the Yale premiere of the work and it involves some amazing talent: The Jasper String Quartet; Max Gordon Moore, Ashley Smith, and
a group of young designers who studied at the Yale School of Drama.
The running time will be about 35 minutes.

Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library

This is a selection of audio recordings and music from Beinecke's collections that Matthew Suttor collaged into a 20 minute loop of voices and sounds that will fill the mezzanine of the library for the day on Saturday.

Gala Concert

Sprague Memorial Hall, 470 College Street<x-apple-data-detectors://8>

This concert celebrates some wonderful pieces of manuscript music in the Beinecke's collections.
The running time will be about 1 hour 25 minutes.


All events are free and open to the public. However, tickets for the gala concert need to be picked up at the Sprague Hall ticket office prior to the concert.
