Marijane Meaker began her writing career in the 1950s under the name Vin
Packer and became famous for the lesbian-themed novel Spring Fire, which
sold over 1 and 1/2 million copies. She wrote additional "paperback
originals" as Ann Aldrich. In the 1970s, she began a hugely
successful career as M.E. Kerr, writing for young adults, bringing the
world Dinky Hocker Shoots Smack!, and Night Kites among
many others--a body of work for which she was presented the American
Library Association's Margaret A. Edwards Award for Lifetime Achievement
in 1993. In 2003, Cleis Press published the first title in years
under her real name: Highsmith: A Romance of the 1950's,
which details her relationship with Patricia Highsmith, author of The
Talented Mr. Ripley and Strangers on a Train.
