In conjunction with the poetry reading of the Israeli translator Peter
Cole as the fifth Whitney Humanities Center Franke Lecture in the
Humanities ("The Dream of the Poem: Five Hundred Years of Hebrew
Poetry from Muslim and Christian Spain," February 22, 2005), the
acclaimed Palestinian poet Taha Muhammad Ali (b. 1925) will visit Yale to
give a reading of his poetry in Arabic, accompanied by the English
translations of Peter Cole. This event, which is co-sponsored by the
Whitney Humanities Center, the Yale Arabic Poetry Colloquium, and the
Yale Contemporary Poetry reading group, will take place on Wednesday,
February 23, 2005, at 5:00pm. For more information, contact
