A TRIBUTE TO ROBERT PENN WARREN<br><br>

</b></font><font face="garamond" size=4>This year marks the centenary of

America’s most distinguished man of letters. Three times awarded the

Pulitzer Prize and named the nation’s first poet laureate, Robert Penn

Warren was also for many years an influential and beloved member of the

Yale faculty. As novelist, poet, critic, and teacher, his work inspired

our community and is a permanent part of this country’s cultural

heritage. Several of his colleagues and friends are joining to honor

Warren’s memory on Tuesday, November 1<sup>st</sup>, at 5pm, in Room 101

of Linsly-Chittenden Hall (63 High Street). The event is free and open to

the public; a reception follows. Participating in this remarkable event

are Yale professors Harold Bloom and John Hollander, along with John Burt

(Warren’s literary executor), David Milch (Hollywood writer and Warren

protégé), Nancy Lewis (whose husband, Prof. R. W. B. Lewis was Warren’s

frequent collaborator), David Rosen (a close family friend), and Rosanna

Warren (distinguished poet and Warren’s daughter). Please join us for

this unique tribute to one of our great writers, whose restless inquiry

into the nature of the human heart resulted in such novels as <i>All The

King’s Men</i> and poems of enduring beauty. The event is sponsored by

the Department of English and the Beinecke Library.</font></blockquote>
