a loaf of bread:</b> Atticus Bookstore and Chabaso Bakery, in celebration
of National Poetry Month, will give a free loaf of bread to anyone who
comes in on Fridays in April and reads a poem aloud. “Poetry, like bread,
is for everyone,” wrote El Salvadorian poet Roque Dalton. Poetry books
will be on hand to read from, or performers can read their own poems.

The month-long event at Atticus will also feature a formal reading by
Marilyn Nelson, Vivian Shipley, Rennie McQuilkin and Karen Chase on
Friday, April 27 beginning at 7 p.m. The Connecticut Youth Poetry Slam
Team will also perform on Friday, April 20 at 7 p.m. Atticus Bookstore,
1082 Chapel St., New Haven, is open Fridays between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m.
