Poetry Month, Atticus Bookstore and Café will host a reading of four
distinguished poets on Friday, April 27 at 7 p.m. The reading is
downstairs. The featured poets are:<br>
<br>
<b>Marilyn Nelson</b>, a University of Connecticut professor, who from
2001 until March 2007 was the Poet Laureate of the State of Connecticut.
She has been a finalist three times for the National Book Award, has
received two fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, and
has won the Poets' Prize.<br><br>
<b>Vivian Shipley</b>, a Connecticut State University distinguished
professor, editor of <i>Connecticut Review</i>,<i> </i>nominated twice
for the Pulitzer Prize, and winner of the World Press Poetry Prize and
the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Connecticut Center for the
Book.<br><br>
<b>Rennie McQuilkin</b>, co-founder of the Sunken Garden Poetry Festival,
received a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts and the
Connecticut Commission on the Arts, published in <i>The Atlantic Monthly,
Yale Review, Poetry</i>, and <i>The American Scholar</i>.<br><br>
<b>Karen Chase</b>, a fellow at the MacDowell Colony and the Rockefeller
Foundation's Bellagio Center, she was for over a decade poet in residence
at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center, teaching poetry writing
to psychiatric patients; now a trustee for the Amy Clampitt Fund.

Also, as part of the bookstore’s month-long “bread for poems” event,
anyone who wishes is invited to come into the bookstore anytime Friday to
read a poem aloud in exchange for a free loaf of artisan bread made by
Chabaso Bakery. The bookstore in downtown New Haven, 1082 Chapel St., is
