Draft of Light on Thursday, April 24, 2008, at 4 pm.

Often profoundly philosophical and playful at the same moment,
Hollander's poems are always the work of a master craftsman. The

Hollander has been awarded the Bollingen Prize, the Levinson Prize, and
the MLA Shaughnessy Medal, as well as fellowships from the Guggenheim
Foundation, the MacArthur Foundation, and the National Endowment for the
Arts. A former chancellor of the Academy of American Poets and the
current poet laureate of Connecticut, Hollander is the Sterling Professor
emeritus of English at Yale, where he remains a beloved teacher of poetry
writing as well as of poetry reading and interpretation.
