Rakoff, who adapted and acts in </span><i><span style='font-size:12.0pt'>The
New Tenants </span></i><span style='font-size:12.0pt'>(Academy Award winning
film for “Best Short Film, Live Action”) will introduce the film

in a post-screening conversation. He is an essayist, journalist, actor, and a
regular contributor to Public Radio International’s </span><i><span
style='font-size:12.0pt'>This American Life</span></i><span style='font-size:
12.0pt'>, hosted by Ira Glass. Rakoff is known for his humorous, sometimes autobiographical
non-fiction essays, describing himself as “a ‘New York writer’
who also happens to be a ‘Canadian writer’, a ‘Jewish writer’,
a ‘gay writer’ and an ‘East Asian Studies major who has
forgotten most of his Japanese.’” He has also published two
bestselling collections of essays, </span><i><span style='font-size:12.0pt'>Fraud
</span></i><span style='font-size:12.0pt'>(Doubleday 2001) and </span><i><span
style='font-size:12.0pt'>Don’t Get Too Comfortable </span></i><span
style='font-size:12.0pt'>(Doubleday 2005); both were awarded the Lambda Literary
Award in the “Humor” category. His third book of essays </span><i><span
style='font-size:12.0pt'>Half Empty </span></i><span style='font-size:12.0pt'>is
due to be published in 2010.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
